It goes without saying that our parents have sacrificed a lot to set us up for success. They had to navigate a world that uses a language they did not speak, and they still do!

For many young Somalis who live in the West, translating documents that came through the mail for our parents is something we are all too familiar with. For many of us, our parents have grown reliant upon us to help the household with tasks relating to applications, appointments, and handling mail.

Hooyo.app isn't trying to solve a huge problem; It comes from a place of love. It enables our parents and those we care about not to need us all the time. It returns a small piece of independence that English had taken away from them. And it does this while never storing anything other than what they need to log in to the app.

Hooyo is a small step in what will, with the grace of Allah, be a legacy of small steps our generation takes to give back to our heroes, starting with our hooyo.
